Students from Sycamore High School’s African Library Project presented their club’s effort to the board and described plans for a district‑wide drive to collect books and funds.
Club leaders — Siddharth (senior, club president), Taya (operations lead) and Jason (fundraising lead) — described their goal to collect 10,000 books and $10,000 this year to support construction of 10 libraries in Malawi and similar partner communities. The club reported it has more than 50 members, has previously raised and shipped 1,000 books and will run door‑to‑door collections, a district drive scheduled for mid‑January and several fundraisers including a spike‑ball tournament in December.
The students asked the board and community to donate K–8 books in good condition and described a pickup option: donors can submit a Google form (linked on the club’s Instagram and Linktree) and club volunteers will pick up books directly from residences.
Quote and audience response Siddharth described the club’s approach: "We started a club at the high school... last year we raised over 1,000 books and over $1,000 and we were able to ship those books to the (community) in Malawi." Board members thanked the students and encouraged community support.
Ending Club leaders said they will post collection details on Instagram and the district asked administration to help publicize the drive on the district website and pick‑up instructions.
