Roots Market expansion in Middlesex backed by $75,000 working-lands grant

Roots Market, the retail arm of Bear Roots Farm, received a $75,000 Working Lands Enterprise Initiative supply-chain grant and a Sprout loan to expand its Middlesex retail and production space, Agency of Agriculture, Food and Markets staff told a legislative committee.
For the record, Abby Willard, Agency of Agriculture, Food and Markets, told the committee the grant was awarded in fiscal year 2022 as one of the program's larger "supply chain impact" awards designed to benefit multiple agricultural businesses. "A supply chain impact grant is designed to make infrastructure improvements, do some sort of modernization or improvement along the supply chain and then benefit multiple ag businesses," Willard said.
