Board approves consent agenda, accepts three retirements; district to use cooperative procurement lists

The Rye City School District Board of Education approved the Jan. 14 consent agenda by a recorded vote of 7–0. The motion to approve was made by Sean Klapfer and seconded by Jen Boyle; Board President Valerie Lapham announced the vote tally as “All those in favor, that would be 7 to nothing.”
The consent agenda included the district’s participation in cooperative procurement programs CREC and Empire Procure to purchase goods and services at discounted rates; hiring two custodians (bringing that department to full staff, the board noted); a consulting agreement with Consulting That Makes A Difference for teacher differentiation; and the acceptance of three staff retirements effective at the end of June.
The board accepted the retirements of Mary Belafato (Midland School teacher, 33 district years), Marie Brennan (middle school teacher/science adviser, 18 district years) and Judy Conrad (elementary academic intervention services teacher, 25 district years). Principals provided written tributes read at the meeting; the board thanked all three for their service. No separate motions were required for the personnel items because they were included in the consent package.
A separate motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Valerie Lapham, seconded by Matt Chibinoff, and approved 7–0.
