Board approves organizational votes, committee appointments and consent items

The Amherst County School Board completed routine organizational business and several appointments at its Jan. 15 meeting, approving the agenda, electing board leadership and confirming delegates to boards and committees.
The board unanimously approved the meeting agenda. Chair Chris Terry was re‑elected as board chair and David Childress was elected vice chair; both votes were taken by voice with no recorded opposition.
The board approved a package of appointments and delegates, including representatives and alternates for the Laurel Regional Board, the Virginia School Boards Association convention, the Governor’s School liaison and the STEM Academy. Notable actions included the appointment of (as recorded in meeting materials) Mrs. Ligon as VSBA delegate with Mrs. Saunders named alternate, and a motion assigning Miss Abby to serve as primary representative for the STEM Academy with Mr. Rossi as alternate.
The board continued its one‑year policy committee for another year and appointed Miss Thompson and Miss Justice to serve on that committee. The consent agenda and standard administrative appointments (items 5.01 through 5.05 where applicable) were approved in single motions as presented.
