School division staff provided a construction progress update Wednesday showing rapid advance at the Amherst County High School auditorium and the new field house, including rooftop HVAC placement, window framing and interior framing for auditorium lighting and seating.
Facilities staff said rooftop HVAC units had been delivered and placed before the winter break and that crews have completed substantial framing, exterior brickwork and storefront framing. The report included photos showing interior ceiling work, new doorways and areas being closed in ahead of mechanical, electrical and plumbing rough‑in.
The field house exterior structure went up over several days, the division said, and interior work is advancing with roll‑up doors, insulation and framing. Staff said they expect temporary HVAC service in February to heat work areas and to test systems. The field house will include pitching and batting cages and a 60‑by‑120 footprint with a 60‑by‑75 usable area for cages.
District staff also reported work elsewhere: replacement of exterior windows, exterior doors and camera improvements funded through a DCGS grant at elementary schools. Staff said they are trenching dual conduit for fiber to the new field house and coordinating cable providers.
School and construction managers said warranties will begin at final building turnover and that some units will run on a temporary basis before warranty acceptance to work out mechanical issues.
