The Troutdale City Council voted on Jan. 14, 2025, to adopt a timeline and application form to fill a council vacancy created when a councilor assumed the mayoralty and resigned the council seat.
City staff presented a timeline included in the meeting packet: the city will post public notice and accept applications using the packet’s application form (Exhibit B). Staff recommended applications be due by Friday, Jan. 31, 2025, at 5 p.m., submitted to the city recorder. Councilors will receive application packets and interviews are tentatively scheduled for Feb. 11, 2025; the council will interview candidates in open session and then vote to fill the vacancy at that meeting.
Paul Cox (phone/Zoom) corrected several dates and background details in the staff report during public comment and urged the council to consider a charter review at a later date; staff said the proposed timeline and form could be corrected for date typos in the packet, and that any charter changes would be a separate process.
Council adopted the timeline and application form as recommended by staff (with the packet date change from Jan. 30 to Jan. 31). The motion carried on a roll-call vote with all members present voting yes.
