Cottage Grove library highlights senior outreach, school partnerships and winter events

Library staff reviewed a program schedule Jan. 15 that runs through May and highlighted several upcoming events aimed at seniors, children and families.
Tracy told the board she will run a drop-in tech support session next Thursday at Dremeland Residences for senior residents and noted the program is open to the general public. Attendance signups were low, and staff asked board members to help publicize the session to local seniors.
She highlighted two author talks, “Wolfie and His 2 Dads,” on Jan. 30 and Feb. 6, and a “Crafting for Tweens with Curious Crafters” program to be held at Glacial Drumlin School Library—the first time the library will use that middle-school space for programming. Tracy said the library is aiming to reach a range of ages with the current schedule.
The board discussed a planned candlelight night hike on Feb. 1. When asked, staff confirmed the hike “will be at Governor Taylor Nature Park.” Tracy also described a drop-in game night slated for Feb. 10 at the parks programming space, and a Badger Talk on Feb. 13 at Drumlin Residences about Wisconsin dugout canoes.
Tracy said the Badger Talks are no cost to the library and that the historical society lecture series will require a small stipend for selected authors who may sell books at events. She noted limits on the Badger Talks schedule, saying the library is limited to two per year and that she plans to save remaining talks for summer or fall unless directed otherwise.
Staff will finalize and print a one-page program guide listing events through May, and plans to post program information in school newsletters, the parks biweekly activity blast, posters around town and the Herald Independent. The board meets next on Feb. 19.
