Mount Vernon commission to hire experts for charter language cleanup, commissioners say

Mount Vernon’s Charter Review Commission discussed a draft amendment on Jan. 15 that would require creation of a temporary commission to hire outside professionals to rewrite and clean up the city charter.
Pamela Boyd, a member of the Charter Review Commission, told the group the draft’s Section 3 “requires that another commission be established” whose purpose would be to engage municipal law professionals to update language, remove obsolete provisions, reorganize sections for readability and align the charter with current state statute. Boyd said the National Civic League had recommended a full rewrite and that municipal legal expertise would be appropriate for the task.
