District spotlights: kindergarten literacy program, Beverly Hills PBIS rewards and student honors

Kindergarten literacy Anna Marie Delosse, principal of the Upper Darby Kindergarten Center, and James Galligan, assistant principal, presented on foundational literacy instruction. A video presented by Gina Applegate showcased lessons that include phonics drills, skywriting, whiteboard practice and small‑group work. The kindergarten center enrollment was described as about 475 students; staff reported roughly 177 students receive English Learner (EL) services and the school has three EL teachers, which administrators said requires creative scheduling and small‑group supports.
PBIS and rewards day at Beverly Hills Middle School Wayne Remy, principal of Beverly Hills Middle School, described the school’s Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program and its quarterly PBIS Rewards Days, which provide student‑choice activities across the building. Remy said the school serves about 1,500 students and that Rewards Days mix large outdoor activities (track‑and‑field games and tug‑of‑war) with classroom choice rooms, quiet spaces and raffle incentives.
Student recognitions Superintendent Daniel McGarry and staff recognized members of the Upper Darby High School music program selected for Pennsylvania Music Educators Association District 12 ensembles and acknowledged athletes receiving all‑league and sportsmanship honors. The superintendent named students and coaches and invited those present to come forward for photos.
