The Florence City Planning Commission voted to remove agenda item PC-2024-31 after city council adopted a resolution renaming Northwest Park.
Acting chair Charles Howard opened the meeting and explained that City Council had voted at its regular meeting the previous day to proceed with the renaming in the form of a resolution, which meant the planning commission could not act on the same item. Staff said the city council action was a policy decision and not an ordinance.
The matter was withdrawn from the planning commission agenda by motion, which passed without recorded opposition. Commissioners then continued with the remaining items on the agenda.
The removal leaves the council-adopted resolution — naming the park “Mordecai C. Johnson Park” — as the governing action on the name. The planning commission’s records will be updated to reflect that PC-2024-31 was deleted from its agenda.
No public hearing was required because the council had already acted on the matter.
