Granville mayor reports progress on intersection lights and pole work; independent concrete inspection underway

Patty Lewis, mayor of the Town of Granville, told the Monongalia County Commission on Jan. 15 that work on new streetlight poles and intersection improvements is underway and that the town is conducting an independent inspection of recently poured concrete.

“All four pole foundations at the Walmart intersection have achieved the required depth. The rebar and anchor bolts were installed. Concrete was poured, and an independent concrete inspection is being conducted to make sure that it meets all the cold weather requirements for curing,” Lewis said.

Lewis said Blue and Gold Development has mobilized and begun grading to increase the turning radius at the Walmart intersection and to install a pedestrian crossing. Work on a pole foundation at Sesame Drive had started; two poles reached the required 11-foot depth while weather delayed work on the remaining foundations.

Lewis also reported that Mon Power had terminated service to two streetlight poles that will be removed and replaced with poles on traffic signal structures. She noted a minor conflict with a concrete thrust block on a MUB water main and said town engineers were coordinating with the utility to resolve it.

The mayor closed by announcing a local blood drive scheduled for 12 p.m.–6 p.m. at the social hall behind Granville City Hall.

Why it matters: Streetlight and intersection improvements can affect traffic flow, pedestrian safety and local economic development. The commission recorded the mayor’s report during the meeting but took no formal action on these items.
