Travis County emergency management staff warned the Commissioners Court on Tuesday of a short cold snap that could bring near-freezing temperatures and a possible freezing mix in portions of the central Texas hill country.
Eric Carter, the county’s chief emergency management coordinator, told the court “the main thing we’re gonna see early mornings, our temperature is gonna be near freezing,” and said, “expect overnight, Wednesday into Thursday. Take caution. There's no guarantee we will get ice, but there's a chance of it.”
Carter said county departments are taking preparedness steps, including planning for road impacts and operations around warming centers, and asked residents to bundle children for school drop-off and to “remain weather aware.” The county did not declare a burn ban and said no formal action was required by the court on the briefing.
The county’s forecast information and operational posture could change as the National Weather Service updates forecasts; Carter emphasized that “things can change” and urged the public to monitor official weather updates and county communications.
