Fluvanna County Planning Commission elects chair, adopts 2025 meeting schedule

The Fluvanna County Planning Commission elected John Lee Barry Bibb as its chair and adopted an organizational resolution setting regular meeting dates and times during an organizational meeting on Jan. 14, 2025. The commission designated the Morris Room in the county administration building as its regular meeting place and scheduled regular meetings for the Tuesday after the first Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m.

The commission adopted the resolution, which states that additional meeting locations, dates and times may be used consistent with the planning commission’s bylaws. Commissioners discussed and approved two calendar exceptions for 2025: the November meeting was moved from Veterans Day, Nov. 11, to Nov. 18, and the January meeting date was adjusted to Jan. 14. Commissioners noted that October is the only month with a meeting on the first Tuesday under the adopted schedule.

During the organizational proceedings, a motion to elect a chairman was made and seconded; the motion carried and the gavel was passed to John Lee Barry Bibb, who took the chair. Separately, commissioners elected a vice chair by nomination and voice vote. The commission then voted to adopt the organizational resolution formalizing meeting place and schedule; the roll call on that resolution showed the chair and voting members in favor with an absent member recorded.

After completing organizational business, the commission adjourned the organizational meeting and planned to reconvene for a scheduled work session at 6:15 p.m.

Why it matters: The resolution sets the commission’s official meeting place and a recurring monthly schedule for 2025, and the date adjustments avoid a conflict with the state-observed Veterans Day holiday in November. These scheduling and leadership decisions determine when and where the commission will consider land-use matters and hear the public through the year.
