Taco Madre applicant asked to return after neighborhood outreach; ALRC refers license to next meeting

The Alcohol License Review Committee on Jan. 15 referred a new off-premise alcohol license application for Taco Madre LLC doing business as Taco Madres at 2827 Atwood Avenue to the committee’s February meeting so the applicant can contact the neighborhood association and the district alder.
Applicant Jose Segua told the committee, “My name is Jose Segua and we are applying for the alcohol license for the Margaritas,” and confirmed he had posted an information sign with a proposed information session but had not reached the district alder or the Atwood neighborhood association. Multiple committee members and the district police captain expressed concern about the hours originally listed on the application; Segua said the plan had been changed from earlier application hours to 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
Deputy City Attorney McReynolds advised the committee that the application form indicated the applicant had agreed to contact the neighborhood association, which had not happened; McReynolds recommended referral when steps required by the application were not followed. Miss Farley moved to refer the item so the applicant could follow up with the neighborhood community and the district alder; Alder Knox seconded. The motion passed on a roll call vote of 4 ayes and 1 no (Ruschick), and the item was scheduled to return to the ALRC in February so the applicant can document contact with the Sassy Neighborhood Association.
Police Captain Khaboskie reiterated that the department’s concern had been the applicant’s original proposal for later hours, and said the amended hours addressed that concern. Committee members recorded that the applicant had said there would be no outdoor service and that the captains had inspected the premises and found no operational objections.
The committee’s referral means the application will be reconsidered after staff record the applicant’s outreach to the neighborhood association and alder.
