County supervisors promote Jan. 24 veterans "stand down" and veteran services officer hire

Yoder said the stand down — labeled a combined veterans stand down and veterans appreciation event — will run 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Jan. 24 and include roughly 80 service vendors, free meals, gear and other items, haircuts and military equipment displays. She said the event will target homeless and at‑risk veterans while also serving veterans broadly, including spouses and dependents.
Yoder also reported that the county used AB 109 realignment funds to fund a full‑time Veterans Services Officer (VSO) through the Corrections Community Partnership and that paperwork to hire that position was being filed promptly. She encouraged council members to attend and described outreach already completed at a recent senior resource expo that signed up nearly 200 veterans for services.
The presentation drew no formal action; council members thanked Yoder and asked for more information on one event item (DME — durable medical equipment), which staff said they would follow up on.
The council did not take action on funding or partnering at the meeting, but Yoder said vendor and agency participation would include VA, CalVet and other local veteran service organizations.
