Board accepts county’s 2025–2030 comprehensive economic development strategy update

The San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors on Jan. 14 accepted an updated County Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (SEDS) for 2025–2030. County staff said the strategy guides collaborative economic development priorities and maintains eligibility for U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) funding.
Deputy Director Nicole Snyder summarized the update process: a consultant-led outreach effort gathered more than 540 business and resident survey responses, four public workshops and input from economic development staff across the county. The San Joaquin County Economic Development Association board reviewed and approved the draft on Nov. 25, 2024. The county’s action accepts the update and authorizes staff to submit the package to the federal EDA; any federal comments will be addressed before finalization.
Why it matters: A current SEDS is a prerequisite for public-works and EDA economic-adjustment grants; the update is intended to strengthen the county’s competitiveness for federal and state infrastructure and economic development funding.
Board action: After a brief presentation and no public speakers, the board voted 5-0 to accept the SEDS and its appendix. Staff will submit the final materials to the U.S. EDA for review.
Ending: County staff said they will respond to any EDA comments and continue stakeholder engagement as project-specific grant applications are developed.
