The report said the bleachers would be about 178 feet end‑to‑end with four rows of seating above the current field fence and an 8-by-24 foot press box roughly 11 feet above field level. Initial cost estimates shared with the committee were about $230,000 for bleachers and another $200,000-plus for the press box and installation; the subcommittee said the combined total before site work and other contingencies is roughly $434,000. The district also cited an earlier 2020 site‑work estimate of about $93,000 for the press box section.
The subcommittee discussed funding options including borrowing, creating a capital stabilization account, or seeking grants. Members noted the district's rural transportation and athletics needs had previously justified purchases through the district's rural aid funding.
Discussion also covered maintenance and responsibility for a generator at New Braintree. The meeting record states the district typically handles repairs and maintenance for most generators and that an agreement with New Braintree would shift generator maintenance into the district budget next year while the town assumes sidewalk snow removal responsibilities previously handled by the district.
Committee members and staff reviewed grant options and timelines. Superintendent remarks and later staff comments noted the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) opens competitive windows for funding and related programs, including roofs, windows and heat pump projects; MSBA and other funding opportunities are competitive and the district must consider capital planning across multiple buildings when applying.
Committee members asked about ADA accessibility and other site issues; the district said any accessibility work would depend on project scope and regulatory review and that the gym bleacher replacement had previously met accessibility requirements. The committee asked administration to continue refining cost and funding plans and to return with options.
