Sugar Land parks events calendar for 2025: Astros partnership moves July 4 celebration to Constellation Field

Interim Events Production Manager Carla (Carly) Allen presented the Parks & Recreation 2025 special-events program at the Jan. 14 Parks Board meeting, listing the department's recurring and new events and operational changes.
Allen said the department plans to stage International Art & Kite Fest, a pump-track world qualifier (dates TBD), Bison Brews, Memorial Day ceremony, Food Truck Friday, Party at the Plaza at Smart Financial Center plaza, Fall Fest, Yappy Hour and the annual Christmas tree lighting. Chess Fest will shift from Town Square Plaza to the T. E. Harmon Senior Center to emphasize tournament play and move the event indoors.
The July 4 celebration, Red, White & Boom, will operate in partnership with the Houston Astros in 2025 and is planned to move from Crown Festival Park to Constellation Field; staff said the partnership offers access to greater financial resources and operational efficiencies. Allen said the department will continue to coordinate programming with the Astros.
Allen described sponsorships and a new special-events trailer that holds tents, tables, chairs, games and a deployable TV; the events team reported about $87,000 in sponsorship revenue last year to support programming. The trailer is intended for use by city event staff and departmental partners; a separate community share cube is available for neighborhood use.
Staff reviewed event locations (Brazos River Park, Memorial Park, Palm Springs dog park, Town Square/Smart Financial Center plaza) and noted awards earned from the Texas Festivals and Events Association and the Texas Association of Festivals and Events for the department's promotional and organizational work.
Board members asked questions about music programming, the pump-track qualifier schedule and trailer availability for departments and community groups. Allen said the department will circulate the finalized event schedule and invited board members to attend and serve as event liaisons.
