County ethics adviser to retire; ethics commission established but not yet appointed

Jamie (staff member) said the current ethics adviser provides annual reports to the committee summarizing inquiries and that those reports are informational. "Our current ethics adviser, former judge, Grant Wagner, is retiring," Jamie said, and staff will begin the process to find a replacement and to appoint the new ethics commission members.
Committee members were told the board previously amended the ethics ordinance to create an ethics commission (with appointments by the county chair and advice-and-consent by the board). At the meeting staff said there were no formal complaints that required referral to the commission and that the adviser is paid by the hour for research and advice, not on a flat stipend.
Next step: the county chair will begin identifying candidates to replace the adviser and to fill the ethics commission; staff said Wagner will remain available through April or until a successor is in place.
