Summary
At the Jan. 7 meeting, a Prairieville Township resident urged elected officials to be accountable to their party platforms and to study federal and state constitutions, and commissioners discussed security and ambulance coverage for an upcoming fairgrounds event plus scheduling changes for candidate interviews.
Cindy Twitchell of Prairieville Township used the limited public‑comment period to urge elected officials to be accountable to the political platforms under which they ran and to study the U.S. and state constitutions.
“I want to clarify that it was not about control. It was about holding those who were elected, who ran under the Republican platform accountable to that platform,” Twitchell said. She told commissioners she provided each of them a copy of the Republican platform and copies of the federal and state constitutions and said elected officials sworn to uphold the constitutions should read them.
Commissioners then provided several updates. Commissioner Bassett praised the parks plan and described it as addressing county needs for recreation and green space. Other commissioners discussed security planning, ambulance coverage and logistics for an upcoming large event at the county fairgrounds:
- Commissioners said event organizers have their own security but the county will provide supplemental support, including a posse or auxiliary officers for traffic control and perimeter protection. Officials said they will work with organizers to prevent trespass into private fields.
- Commissioners raised concerns about ambulance availability. One commissioner noted the county has about four ambulances for roughly 63,000 residents and asked that dispatch be included in planning for the event.
- The board discussed reimbursement for county overtime related to event security; organizers indicated they expect to reimburse overtime costs.
Separately, commissioners outlined changes to the interview schedule for an upcoming candidate review: a set of interviews will take place on the 21st, with a special meeting proposed for the 23rd to complete remaining interviews and avoid an overly long single meeting.
No formal action resulted from these remarks; they were informational updates and public comment.
