Board approves purchase of 47 laptops for elections; clerk’s grant will reimburse cost

The Macomb Township Board of Trustees unanimously approved a $38,079.87 purchase of 47 laptops from CDWG to be used by the elections department as electronic poll books and for general election purposes.
Jason Lapari of the IT department told the board the clerk’s office has been awarded a grant that will reimburse the township for the entire cost of the laptops. The board voted to repurpose older election laptops into a training lab to prepare more than 70 election inspectors.
"These laptops will be used in the elections department or electronic poll books and for general election use. The clerk's office is awarded a grant that will reimburse the township for the cost of these laptops," Jason Lapari said.
Trustees asked when the laptops would be deployed. Lapari and other staff said there are no regularly scheduled elections in 2025 unless a special election is called; absent a special election, the devices would first be used at the next scheduled election (e.g., the August primary or the 2026 cycle). The board approved the purchase by motion and vote.
