The committee made the recommendation during its regular meeting after hearing Brock introduce himself and describe his role. "Hi, guys. I'm James Brock. I have was born on this island. I've been here my entire life," Brock said, and later added, "Honestly, I just like to make sure there is good coordination between the township and this board and be able to help smooth anything over in any way possible and just help further this committee in any ways that I can help." Brock also said he assists the township's ordinance officer with enforcement work, including encroachment issues.
The recommendation was moved by Mr. Geist and seconded by Ms. Phillips; the committee approved the motion by voice vote. Committee members noted the appointment still requires formal approval by the township board before Brock can serve in an official liaison role.
Committee members said they expect Brock's zoning and enforcement responsibilities to be useful in addressing recent incidents of encroachment and other open-space enforcement needs. "I would be happy to. And as mentioned, I am the zoning administrator, and I do help with enforcements. So that would be something that I could have a very big part in to help you guys with," Brock said.
The committee recorded the vote as a voice approval; no roll-call tally was specified in the minutes. The recommendation will appear on the township board agenda for formal confirmation.
The meeting also included routine approvals: the agenda and the Oct. 29 special meeting minutes were approved; a member abstained from the minutes vote because she had not attended the Oct. 29 meeting.
Looking ahead, committee members asked Brock to help on sign installation, trail-rule signage, and enforcement around informal structures and unauthorized digging found on township trails. Committee leaders said they will follow up with Brock and with township staff about next steps if the board approves his liaison appointment.
