The board approved its consent agenda unanimously at the Jan. 13 meeting; Superintendent Monica Merritt summarized human resources transactions including multiple new hires and one retirement.
Human resources: Chief Human Resources Officer Abdul Madion read names of newly hired staff, including Kayla Ellis (elementary ASD teacher), Amanda Ukes (nurse), Emily Storzewski (resource room teacher), Jane Caldwell (employment coordinator, HR), a new computer technician, and Caitlin Morris (recommended for accounts payable). The motions to approve the consent agenda passed 7–0 earlier in the meeting.
Retirement: Merritt and colleagues announced that Beth Veil, chief academic and innovation officer, has informed the district she will retire effective July 31, 2025. Merritt and board members praised Veil’s leadership, citing her role developing the district’s Innovation special, a pre‑K–5 innovation hub, learner profile work, and e‑sports program. Merritt said Veil has served the district since 2019 and that the district will use the remaining months before her departure to document practices and transition leadership.
Recognition: The board presented the Marybeth Carroll “Extra Miler” award to assistant principal Saisha Dyer of East Middle School. Colleagues described Dyer as student-centered, collaborative and a steady presence who supports students and staff; Dyer thanked colleagues and families.
Why it matters: The personnel actions update the board on staffing and leadership transitions that feed into program continuity and district planning. Board members asked for community members to welcome new hires and to note that Veil will remain in her role through July to support transition work.
