Senator Kirby told colleagues the item was a technical correction to a resolution passed last year that used incorrect birth-year designations. "That resolution was commemorating Martin Luther King and Medgar Evers for their 100th birthday. And we need to bring that back up because last year they were only 99. So we need to do this correctly," Senator Kirby said on the floor.
Senator Kirby moved to suspend the rules so the Senate could consider the resolution immediately; the presiding officer announced the motion carried. Later on the floor Kirby asked that the resolution be given immediate release so the House could consider it the same day. The Senate granted immediate release.
Senator Frazier asked unanimous consent to be added as a co-author of SCR 508; the presiding officer noted no objection and the request was granted.
