The Mississippi House of Representatives set a schedule for several committee hearings and approved procedural motions during a floor session that included introductions of student pages and community visitors.
The schedule announced on the floor included a 3 p.m. joint hearing of the Public Health and Human Services committees in room 216 and multiple Appropriations budget hearings in room 201A. Appropriations B was set for 4 p.m. today; Appropriations E was scheduled for 8:30 a.m. tomorrow; Appropriations C for 1 p.m. tomorrow with an additional Appropriations C hearing at 3 p.m.; and Appropriations D at 2:30 p.m. Ways and Means was scheduled for 4:30 p.m. in the Ways and Means room.
Representative Morgan requested expedited handling of introductions on the floor: "I ask unanimous consent to dispense with the reading of the introductions," and the body granted that request after the Speaker called for objection. Representative Powell moved to dispense with the reading of the journal; the motion carried after voice vote, and the clerk announced there was a quorum present.
The floor also included brief community introductions. Jacob Venuti, the head page, introduced the student pages for the week. Members welcomed a delegation from the Special Olympics of Mississippi; Monica Daniels was identified on the floor as executive director. The House also recognized the "doctor of the day," Dr. Pino of Vicksburg.
Members used the floor to announce logistics for the coming days. Representative Eubanks noted a Mission Mississippi prayer breakfast tomorrow at First Baptist Church at 8 a.m. and invited colleagues to participate and sing with the legislative choir, saying, "we still need some house speakers to come up and sing in our legislative choir." The clerk read the schedule and room assignments for the budget and committee hearings noted above.
