Planning Commission elects Moore chair and Dolan vice chair

The Sunnyside City Planning Commission on Jan. 14, 2025 nominated and approved Bridal Moore as chair and Tom Dolan as vice chair during the body’s reorganization at the start of the first meeting after a months-long gap in meetings.

The nominations came during roll call and initial organization of the commission. Moore accepted the nomination for chair; a second was heard and the commission approved the nomination by voice vote. Tom Dolan accepted a subsequent nomination for vice chair and was likewise approved by voice vote. The commission’s new leadership will preside over future meetings and facilitate agenda items and deliberations.

City staff and commissioners said the leadership change was necessary after several months without a fully constituted commission. Staff explained that when prior members’ terms lapsed, the chairmanship lapsed with them and the commission needed to reestablish both chair and vice chair. Staff described the vice chair’s role as running meetings when the chair is absent and said that if both are absent the attending quorum selects a facilitator for that meeting.

Commissioners also discussed attendance and the importance of regular participation. At roll call the commission noted at least two members were not present and were excused; staff emphasized the need for members who can attend consistently so the commission can fulfill its work. The commission confirmed its regular meeting schedule for the coming month, with the next regular meeting set for Feb. 11, 2025.
