Board approves MOU with NDOT for Craighead sidewalk stormwater maintenance

The MOU covers stormwater features that will collect runoff from the new sidewalk and discharge it into a permeable paving parking lot owned by the fairgrounds. Metro Legal and NDOT reviewed the draft; board members proposed a minor wording change during the meeting to remove Metro Parks from the ownership language. "The collected runoff will be discharged into the permeable paving parking lot owned by fairgrounds," the amended sentence now reads, as noted by Metro Legal during the meeting.
Board Chair Jasper Hendrix called for the motion to approve the MOU; a board member moved, a second was recorded, and the board voted "aye" with no opposition. Director Laura Womack (executive director) said the design and stormwater calculations were reviewed by Metro Water and NDOT before the MOU was finalized. A board member asked about contingency plans for unusually heavy rainfall; Womack said Metro Water had run volume scenarios and incorporated those in the infrastructure design.
The MOU also requires fairgrounds staff to monitor and clear the drainage features periodically to prevent obstructions. The board amended the draft during the meeting to clarify ownership of the receiving permeable paving parking lot and approved the MOU as amended.
