Montgomery County held a public hearing Jan. 14 on Corrective Map Amendment H‑151, which would correct a technical zoning error for 12701 Piedmont Road (parcels P‑541 and P‑594) in Clarksburg and rezone the property to R‑200 consistent with the 1982 Damascus master plan.
Patricia Harris of Lerch, Early & Brewer, speaking on behalf of the property owner, told the council the staff report documents a straightforward error and recommends correcting the zoning to R‑200 so the parcel aligns with the master plan and surrounding land use.
A neighboring property owner, Gregory Bloss, said he and his family purchased their home in 1993 relying on the master plan and that rezoning and potential future development would significantly affect their quality of life and property values. Bloss requested that if the council approves a correction, it should be accompanied by a development moratorium of at least 10 years to protect existing residents from immediate development impacts.
No final council action was taken at the hearing; council staff will schedule further action and the public record remains open through the published deadline.
