Council approves $110,000 for Germantown Employment Area sector plan

The Montgomery County Council approved Supplemental Appropriation 25‑39 on Jan. 14, adding $110,000 to support development of the Germantown Employment Area Sector Plan. The funds come from the M‑NCPPC administration fund reserves.
Don Ziegler, master plan supervisor in the Montgomery County Planning Department, described the request as a next phase of work launched in May 2024. He said the planning effort will develop employment recommendations, study road and transit safety, address housing and community connectivity, and analyze roadway capacity using multimodal approaches and Vision Zero goals.
Councilmember Andrew Friedson (second recorded) moved the action; Councilmember Gabe Albornoz (recorded as moving in the transcript errors) and others signaled support, and the motion passed unanimously. Planning staff said the funds would expand community engagement in one of the county’s most diverse areas.
The planning department will return to the council with a timeline and deliverables for the sector plan and will continue stakeholder outreach in Germantown.
