Melissa Abdush, who leads the River Falls Business Leaders and operates Mimi’s Cookies, spoke during public comment on Jan. 14 and asked the city to join the group’s planned recognition of women-owned businesses during March, Women’s History Month.
Abdush said the group has identified “more than a 170 women owned businesses within River Falls” and plans displays across the city celebrating women’s contributions. She extended an invitation to the city to participate by placing displays in City Hall and other public buildings.
Abdush said media outlets plan to send camera crews for recognition events and asked for the council’s support for displays across town. No formal action was requested or taken at the meeting; the request was an invitation for city participation.
