At the start of the meeting commissioners approved the agenda as amended (item 3 pulled), approved bills and vouchers and approved minutes from the Dec. 31, 2024 meeting. No roll-call tallies for those routine approvals were recorded in the transcript.
The board also approved a letter of support for the "Casa 36" bridge replacement grant application. County staff said the project, a deficient bridge north of Georgetown, carries an engineer's estimate of about $10,000,000 with an anticipated funding split of approximately 80% federal (about $8 million), about $1 million from bridge bonding and about $1 million local match if the grant is awarded. The presenter said the bridge is fracture-critical and inspected alternately by MnDOT and county staff; it is currently load-posted and remains drivable.
Separately, following extensive discussion, the board voted to delay enforcement of the recently adopted tobacco ordinance until June 1 and directed public health to notify affected merchants and coordinate communications. (See separate article for full coverage and debate.)
