The Virginia House of Delegates on Jan. 15, 2025 adopted House Joint Resolution No. 470 commending program partners for the Virginia American Revolution 250 Commission and recognizing events marking the 250th anniversary of the Fincastle Resolutions.
The resolution was taken up out of order and approved by voice vote after a brief floor statement. Delegate Austin moved to take up and later to adopt the resolution; the motion carried by voice vote.
The sponsor said the Fincastle Resolutions, adopted in January 1775, are historically significant as an early colonial declaration that independence and the willingness to take up arms were a just cause. A member who spoke to the motion noted celebrations scheduled in Roanoke to mark the anniversary and said the resolution recognizes the work of program partners coordinating those events.
The resolution’s text and any follow-up activities were not detailed on the floor beyond the commendation and the reference to the Roanoke observance. No committee referrals, appropriations, or additional directives to staff were recorded on the floor during the adoption.
The House approved the resolution by voice vote; no roll-call tally was recorded on the floor record provided.
