Collapsed pipe on Kern Lane blocks sewer; crews expected to finish repairs this week

The Water and Sewer Board was briefed Jan. 6 on a sewer backup and collapsed pipe on Kern Lane, a narrow street off Maple Avenue. Field crews attempted to clear the line with jets several times, encountered an obstruction and opened the roadway to find a collapsed segment.
Jeremy, a Water and Sewer Department staff member, said crews found the blockage and that Dan Gerard and the street crew were handling repairs. Jeremy told the board that work was delayed briefly by a water main break in the same area over the holiday period but that the repair was expected to be finished this week.
Staff said they will provide a written report of findings to the board when available and that they will evaluate whether the affected section of Kern Lane requires full replacement rather than spot repairs. The board asked staff to include recommendations and a cost assessment in a future workshop packet.
