The Bow Select Board approved a short-term assessing services contract with Whitney Consulting on Jan. 14 and heard a brief presentation from Steven Hamilton, principal of Whitney Consulting.
Hamilton said his firm began work for the town the prior Friday on an interim basis while the town prepares a longer-term procurement for assessing services. The contract is initially for roughly three months and is structured as a per‑day fee over 26 days in the contract period. Hamilton clarified a “day” is typically eight hours of service; he said the firm would not bill for brief phone calls or quick emails and planned routine on‑site presence one day per week to handle taxpayer questions.
Select Board members asked about budget limits and the town manager confirmed the contract fits within the budget appropriation for assessing services. After approving the contract, the board appointed Selectman Nicholas and Selectman McDaniel to work with Whitney Consulting on several outstanding abatement files to attempt to resolve them before any appeal deadlines.
Town staff and the contractor agreed to proceed with the RFP process for a permanent assessing solution later in the year.
