Virginia Senate advances multiple bills to third reading, adopts committee roster and agrees to resolution honoring Wilder

The Virginia Senate on Wednesday adopted its standing-committee nominations, suspended rules to take up Senate Joint Resolution 277 commending former Gov. Lawrence Douglas Wilder and advanced dozens of bills to third reading while recommitting or postponing a handful for further work.
The Senate unanimously adopted the 2025 standing-committee nominations report and later voted to suspend the rules to take up SJR 277; both measures recorded unanimous support when roll calls were taken. The chamber agreed to SJR 277 honoring former governor Lawrence Douglas Wilder.
Beyond the formal resolutions and committee actions, senators moved a large group of uncontested bills through the second-reading block and had the clerk read multiple bill numbers before engrossing and advancing them to third reading. Bills explicitly mentioned and advanced or otherwise acted on included: SB 761, SB 781, SB 804, SB 825, SB 836, SB 844, SB 873, SB 935, SB 987, SB 997, SB 1150, SB 1176, SB 1206, SB 744, SB 872, SB 992, and SB 1011. Several other bills listed on the uncontested calendar were read in block and advanced as part of the same action.
Not all measures moved forward. Senators recommitted SB 932 to the Committee on Local Government for further work. Senate bills 762 and 805 were set aside ("go by for the day") after requests from their patrons; the floor amendment offered to SB 805 was discussed but the bill was postponed for later consideration.
The Senate also voted to grant privileges of the floor to visiting guests and to temporarily suspend rules for several procedural matters; those motions passed without recorded opposition.
