Senator Locke presented Senate Bill 758, saying the measure would expand remote patient monitoring (RPM) coverage to all pregnant and postpartum Medicaid recipients. In remarks to the committee, Senator Locke cited rising maternal mortality and racial and geographic disparities in maternal outcomes and argued RPM can help providers track blood pressure, blood sugar and oxygen levels during and after pregnancy.
Nut graf: SB 758 seeks to replace a subjective “high-risk” eligibility standard for RPM with an approach that permits providers to determine whether pregnant or postpartum Medicaid patients should receive RPM, with the objective of earlier detection of pregnancy-related complications.
Julie Deim (identified in the hearing as with VHHA) was present and offered to speak but the committee waived additional comments. A motion to recommend the bill was made by Senator Aird and seconded by Senator Bagby; the roll call recorded “Ayes, 4; noes, 0,” and the subcommittee recommended reporting the bill to the parent committee.
Ending: The committee proceeded to the next agenda item, Senate Bill 831.
