Napa County board proclaims January 2025 Positive Parenting Awareness Month, honors outgoing chair

The Napa County Board of Supervisors on Jan. 14, 2025 approved two proclamations: one recognizing January 2025 as Positive Parenting Awareness Month and another commending Supervisor Joelle Gallagher for her service as board chair in 2024.

The board voted to adopt both proclamations without objection. Chair Cottrell called for a motion; a motion to approve both passed with all present supervisors voting aye and Vice Chair Manfry absent.

The Positive Parenting Awareness Month proclamation, presented by representatives of Cope Family Center and other partners, summarized local supports including the Triple P (Positive Parenting Program) collaborative and home-visiting, early learning, behavioral health, and other services. Deborah Wigginton of Cope Family Center told the board, “Positive Parenting Awareness Month reminds us to honor caregivers and invest in programs like Triple P that help families to thrive and succeed.”

Supervisor Joelle Gallagher was also recognized in a separate proclamation noting her 2024 role as board chair and citing actions the board took under her leadership, including wildfire prevention investments and allocations from settlement funds for community health projects. Gallagher received the proclamation and said she was “very happy to pass along the chairmanship to Supervisor Cottrell.”

The board and county staff invited community partners to the dais for photos and remarks following the proclamations.

Ending: The proclamations were adopted as part of the board’s regular business; county staff and partner organizations were asked to publicize the parenting resources noted in the proclamation.
