Council advances ordinance to re-create part-time maintenance post and update wages

The Struthers City Council caucus moved to advance an ordinance to create a part-time maintenance position for the city administrative building and to update the wage schedule, council members said during the Dec. 30 caucus.
Mary (staff member) told the caucus the previous full-time maintenance worker retired earlier in the year and that Stan, an employee with nine years of service, wants to continue in a part-time role. "We had our maintenance person retire... he wants to continue as part time," Mary said, explaining that county workers are assisting meanwhile and that Bob has been coordinating with staff.
Council discussed that the previous ordinance setting the wage dated from 2008 and listed a rate of $7 an hour. "All this is doing is updating the wage on it," an unidentified speaker said, noting the ordinance language otherwise remains the same.
A motion "to bring it in" was made and seconded during the caucus. Members asked whether the item should go to the Finance and Legislation committee; the clerk and mayor advised committee assignment and scheduling would follow regular procedure.
No formal roll-call vote was recorded in caucus. The ordinance, if approved by the council in regular session, would replace ordinance 08-002 (repealed) and take effect Jan. 1, 2025; the updated wage was not specified in the caucus discussion.
The caucus provided direction to prepare the ordinance for presentation during a future council meeting and to confirm committee routing.
