The Beaufort County Library Board approved officer placements and added Juneteenth to its holiday schedule at the Jan. 15 meeting.
The nominating committee presented a slate for two-year terms. By voice vote the board approved the slate naming Janet Porter as vice chair and Joe Bogas as finance chair. The chairperson was selected by secret ballot; the board announced that Lynn Miller received a majority of the votes and will serve as chair.
The board also moved to add Juneteenth (June 19) to the library's holiday closures to align with the county's list of observed holidays. A motion to approve adding Juneteenth was seconded and passed by voice vote with no opposition recorded in the meeting.
The nominating committee explained that the bylaws call for a secret ballot for chair to preserve confidentiality; white slips and ballots were provided during the meeting and tallied by staff.
Board members conducting routine procedural business acknowledged the role of volunteers and friends groups during the reports preceding the votes.
The board set its next regularly scheduled meeting for March 12 at 4 p.m. at the Bluffton branch and adjourned after taking the listed actions.
