The Georgia House of Representatives on Wednesday adopted the day's order of business, confirmed the previous legislative day's journal and unanimously approved a set of privilege resolutions before adjourning until 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, 2025.
The actions set the chamber's agenda for the morning and preserved the official record from the prior legislative day. Clerk Mister Clark read the resolution establishing the day’s order of business; when the chair asked if there was any objection, none was heard and the resolution was adopted by unanimous consent.
Chairman Tarver, chair of the House Committee on Information and Audits, told members the committee had read the previous day's journal and found it correct. "This is a very good, well run state and a very good body," Tarver said as part of his report. The chair dispensed with a full reading of the journal and confirmed it.
Clerkly business included the clerk's reading of first- and second-reading calendars. Among first-reading items announced were House Bills 34–58 (examples: HB34 relating to professions and businesses; HB35 relating to appointment of substitutes for district attorneys; HB37 addressing conditions of employment in elementary and secondary education). The clerk also announced second-reading lists that included House Bill 1 (firearms), House Bill 2 (income taxes) and multiple education and health-related measures. Those bills were placed on the appropriate calendars; no floor votes on those bills were taken during this session.
The clerk read several privilege resolutions recognizing organizations and observances, including a resolution recognizing the Georgia Cancer Control Consortium and declaring Jan. 21, 2025, Addiction Recovery Awareness Day; the resolutions were adopted without objection.
Majority Leader moved that the House stand adjourned until 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, 2025. The motion carried on a voice vote; the chair announced, "The ayes have it," and the House adjourned.
Members were reminded the governor's State of the State address is scheduled next day and were encouraged to attend.
