Benton County appoints members to compensation board; elected officials acknowledged

The board appointed Mike Baron and Steve Williams as members. At the meeting a board member read a code provision noting that members of the county compensation board may not be officers or employees of a political subdivision of the state; the board discussed whether a named appointee who is a mayor of a small city would be eligible under that restriction and concluded he could not serve. After confirming eligibility for the named appointees, the board moved and approved the appointments.
The board also acknowledged the elected officials who will sit on the compensation board: John Yount (recorder), Michelle Schoonover (auditor), John Ketchin (county attorney), Tressel Walton (treasurer) and Charles Garwood (position associated with Gabriel Yupaw in meeting remarks). The chair said staggered terms would be set according to ballot cycles.
The action was procedural and intended to get the compensation board organized so it can begin meeting.
