Coconino County Public Works receives seventh APWA reaccreditation; board recognizes staff

County public works staff were recognized by the American Public Works Association (APWA) for their seventh reaccreditation. APWA representatives and county leaders highlighted road mileage, fleet size and the department’s long-term culture of continuous improvement.
The Coconino County Board of Supervisors on Sept. 30 publicly recognized the county Public Works Department after the department received a seventh reaccreditation from the American Public Works Association.
An APWA representative, Christina Ramirez, described accreditation as a mark of professionalism and continuous improvement. She told the board APWA evaluators reviewed 135 management practices and that the department achieved full compliance. Ramirez said only 176 agencies in North America are accredited and that thirteen are in Arizona.
Public Works Director Christopher Tressler accepted the recognition and credited staff, past leaders and accreditation managers for updating practices and rewriting manuals. County staff noted the department manages roughly 1,000 miles of county roads, a fleet of nearly 400 ‘white-iron’ vehicles and about 50 heavy-equipment units. Supervisors praised the department’s service and partnership with other jurisdictions for road and infrastructure work.
The board and APWA representatives recognized individual staff members who led the accreditation effort. The board took no formal policy action; the item was a ceremonial recognition of national accreditation and departmental achievement.
