Residents praise DPW after storm, ask council about warming center and bus stops

Dennis Perfetti, a Rome resident, told the council he wanted to “thank Joe Giuliano, the mayor, and every DPW worker” for clearing streets after the recent storm. “You guys did a fantastic job, and you should be commended for it,” Perfetti said.
David Halpin, a Rome resident, also praised the DPW and asked whether the city warming station remained open during the cold weather and whether bus service stopped at St. Peter’s housing on Floyd Avenue. “I wanna know if the warming station is still open for the people who are homeless,” Halpin said, and he added that some St. Peter’s residents rely on the bus and may have difficulty reaching the stop.
Commissioner White responded that the city’s warming center in Rome was not currently open but that “if anybody needs it, they will transport them out there to a warming service,” indicating transportation could be arranged. The commissioner did not specify the warming-site location or who would arrange transport.
Councilor Anderson echoed public praise for the DPW, saying the crew did “phenomenal” work ahead of and during the storm, and noted much of the night work involved removing decorations and clearing parks in advance of the snowfall.
The public-comment segment closed after the two speakers. The council did not take formal action on warming-center operations or the specific bus-stop placement during the meeting; both items were presented as requests for information and public concern.
