Public-art map funded; three statues ordered with two approved by council and shipments expected in February

Commissioners reported progress on two non-event projects: a hand-drawn arts and historic-district map and a multi-piece statue acquisition.

Commissioner Bonnie presented a draft map produced by vendor Steadyhand Maps in Phoenix and requested commissioners review and mark corrections before the map is finalized. The map was funded with money located by Commissioner George, and staff said a draft would be circulated for comment.

Commissioners also reported that two statues have been approved by City Council and a third statue is proposed for the library pending the library supervisor's approval. The statues are being procured through MORF and are expected to ship in February. Commissioners discussed installation coordination with City staff, including preparing bases and possible separate dedication ceremonies for statues at the recreational fields and the library. Commissioners also noted a potential additional statue representing a girl in a wheelchair for installation near ball fields; that item will require City Council approval and funding identification.

Separately, commissioners reviewed account balances for the commission's trust account, noting an ending balance of $3,060.06 as of Nov. 30 (statement period). Council-funded items such as banners were noted to have come from the city budget rather than the trust account.

Commissioners asked staff to coordinate bases and installation timing with the vendor and City departments and to plan dedications when installations are complete.
