Mesquite council creates Master Plan Committee, rescinds 2001 update committee

On Jan. 14 the Mesquite City Council approved Resolution R25‑001 to create a Master Plan Committee and rescind the older Resolution No. 277 that had established a Master Plan Update Committee in 2001.
Staff explained the new resolution updates membership language and clarifies that the committee will include the director of Development Services plus six Mesquite residents, for a total of seven members. Section 6 of the resolution adds an attendance provision stating a member may lose membership after three or more unexcused absences in a calendar year.
Councilwoman Fielding moved approval of R25‑001 and the motion passed. Staff said the new committee is intended to provide continuing review and maintenance of Mesquite’s master plan rather than a one‑time update body.
The council approved the resolution and will proceed with appointments in the coming weeks.
