Central Road students lead yoga demonstration; district honors student and staff above‑and‑beyond recipients

Central Road School students attended the Palatine CCSD 15 board meeting to showcase their school's yoga club and lead the board in a short mindfulness exercise.

Mrs. Shostachak, principal of Central Road School, introduced the group and said the yoga club — sponsored by Mrs. Fink and Mrs. Ackley — is open to all students. Students introduced themselves by first name (Frankie, Varvara, Leila, Nora, Eva and Avni) and described benefits of the club, including mindfulness, improved social‑emotional well‑being and stress reduction. The group led the board through a brief series of stretches and a breathing exercise.

"We are thrilled that we are here representing Central Road and Yoga Club," a student said. The presentation emphasized short, classroom‑friendly mindfulness strategies that can be used before or after school.

The board also recognized two above‑and‑beyond honorees. Chloe Widener, a fifth‑grade student at Winston Campus Elementary School, was introduced as this month's above‑and‑beyond student for leadership, academic engagement and bilingualism. Maricela Macias, principal at Winston Campus Middle School, presented Kathy Ferry, an itinerant teacher, as the school's above‑and‑beyond staff honoree for adaptability, instructional leadership and community involvement.

"Kathy's dedication, positivity, and willingness to step into challenging roles exemplify what it means to go above and beyond in service to our students, staff, and community," Macias said.
