The MSD Steuben County Board of Trustees completed its annual reorganization at its Jan. 14 meeting, electing board officers for 2025 and approving a set of administrative appointments and procedural items.
Board members voted to retain the current president and vice president and to fill an open board secretary spot with Becky Maggard. The board also approved a regular meeting schedule for 2025, recommending meetings on the third Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m., with exceptions for December and January that fall around holiday breaks.
The board approved maintaining the state-set salary schedule for board members, which the administration described as $2,000 per year plus a per diem of $150 for regular meetings and $75 for other meetings, consistent with Indiana Code 20-26-4-7. The board also appointed Jessica Swinford as treasurer and Penny Panelli as assistant treasurer and approved bonding for both positions.
For legal representation the board reappointed outside counsel, retaining the law firms named in the packet and keeping Barnes & Thornburg available for cooperative special-education matters. The board also continued the Herald Republican as the qualified publisher for legal notices.
These reorganization actions were taken by motion and recorded roll-call votes during the Jan. 14 meeting. No contested nominations or objections to the slate and appointments were recorded in the meeting minutes.
