Board rejects proposed ordinance change on chief operating officer contracting authority after debate

A motion to table the ordinance for discussion at the retreat was put forward but failed after a voice vote. A subsequent motion to move forward with the ordinance likewise failed; the transcript records confusion on the floor but the final outcome reported by the chair was that the nays had it and the motion failed.
What it means: The proposed changes to sections of the county code governing the chief operating officer’s authority were not adopted at the Jan. 7 meeting and will remain under current rules unless brought back in a future meeting for further consideration.
