Board reviews two midyear budget reallocations: Title IV guest author and Title I reallocation for substitutes and professional development

District staff presented two midyear FY24–25 budget amendments during the work session on Jan. 14.

Budget amendment 17 proposes a reallocation of Title IV funds to hire a guest author to visit Germantown elementary and middle schools this spring. Staff said the amendment moves money from an in-service contracted account into contracted services for the author’s visits.

Budget amendment 18 is a Title I reallocation. Staff said schools reexamined their budgets at midyear and identified lower tutoring-hour needs than originally estimated and one school chose not to run a planned Saturday school. As a result, funds were moved out of the “other salaries and wages” account (account 189) into contracted services for substitutes and for professional development.

Presenters invited questions; none changed the staff recommendation during the meeting. The amendments were provided for board review; no formal votes occurred during the Jan. 14 work session.

Why it matters: reallocation of federal Title funds and Title I funds affects how support services and supplemental programs are delivered. Moving Title IV funds to a contracted author visit is an instructional enrichment decision; Title I reallocations shift resources to staffing and professional development priorities identified midyear.

What’s next: the amendments will follow the district’s budget amendment and approval procedures on a future regular meeting agenda.
