A board member said the newly stated chronic-absence number of 18 prompted confusion; another board member clarified that the policy uses a 10% threshold — equivalent to 18 days in a 180-day school year — for the district’s definition of chronic absenteeism.
“It's 10%,” one board member said; another added, “The 180 — that's where you get your 18.”
Staff said they would accept further questions but did not propose immediate additional edits during the work session. The item was presented as a revision for board review; no formal vote occurred at the Jan. 14 meeting.
